About Our Library
The mission of the Burbank Public Library is to provide access to information, recreation and education through a variety of media.
The Library fulfills its commitment to the future by providing stimulating materials and programs that encourage youth to become life-long learners.
To accomplish its mission, the Library operates two divisions: Technical Services and Public Services. Technical Services includes: Technical Processing (acquisitions, cataloging, and processing of library materials); Automation Services (circulation, database maintenance, online public access Web-based catalog); and Branch Services. Public Services include: Adult, Children and Young Adult Services, and Literacy Services.
Sharon Cohen was appointed Library Services Director April 25, 2003. She has been with the Burbank Public Library since 1975, starting as a library assistant and rose through the ranks to Library Services Director. She has a B.A. in Literature and Language from Wilmington College and a Masters in Library Science from University of Hawaii.
Sharon is a member of the American Library Association, Public Library Association, Library Administration and Management Association, California Library Association, National Management Association and Zonta International. She is also a strong supporter of the Burbank Sister Cities Committee.
During her tenure, she has supervised the opening of the new Buena Vista Branch Library in 2002 and guided the Library purposefully into the twenty-first century with advances in new procedures and technologies.
