OBOC Programs

Join Burbank Public Library this summer for our One Book, One County programs, including book discussions, a craft workshop, and more. We'll also participate in a live event on Saturday, July 27 from 5 - 7 pm with the author! Check our Events Calendar for our full program listing.

Author Talk: Writing from Our Immigrant Hearts
2:00 - 3:30 pm Saturday, June 15 at Buena Vista Branch Library
Dr. Thelma T. Reyna will moderate a round-robin discussion about the authors’ personal stories, visions, dreams, and experiences as they left their original cultures and started new lives in the US. Afterwards, the authors will read excerpts from their books, both prose and poetry. These five writers, coming from distinct backgrounds, remind us that we all embody similar values, hopes, and goals for what it means to be part of a harmonious, inclusive, just, and respectful society.

L.A. Weather: Book Discussion
7:00 - 8:00 pm Thursday, July 25 at Buena Vista Branch Library
In L.A. Weather, María Amparo Escandón drops us into the Rancho Verde four-bedroom home of the Alvarados, a wealthy Mexican American family harboring a host of secrets and lies. The novel is a rich tapestry, chock-full of human drama set against the backdrop of a record-breaking California drought, and it's written with a great deal of energy and love for its characters. Enjoy some tea and good company as we delve deeper into this New York Times Bestseller.
